Hi/Hej! I translate between Swedish and English and offer writing and editing services in both languages.

I specialise in human rights advocacy, legal translation and technical documentation, as well as literary translation and transcreation.

What’s new

Do you need a Swedish-English or
English-Swedish translator?

I have four years’ academic training in literature, languages and translation. With full bilingual proficiency in both languages, I am able to offer translation services in both directions. My aim is to create a text that reads as if it was composed in the target language, whilst retaining the original style and tone of the source text. I specialise in translation for human rights advocacy, legal translation and technical documentation, as well as literary translation and transcreation.

Writing and Editing

I also offer copywriting and editing services
in both Swedish and English.

If you have something to say, I can help you make it work on paper (or online, on the airwaves, on screen – you name it!). If you have written a text in Swedish or English, but are unsure of whether it meets linguistic, cultural or professional standards, I can help you proofread, polish and adapt or localise your words.

I translate, write and/or edit things like: news and feature articles, reports, technical documentation, campaign and marketing material, literary texts, scripts for theatre, film and radio, etc.

Literary translation

As a bilingual translator, I edit, proofread and translate into and out of both Swedish and English and have published or forthcoming book translations in both languages. These include:

It’s Only Blood: Shattering the Taboo of Menstruation
by Anna Dahlqvist

Zed Books, forthcoming 2018

Hopp – Doaas flykt till Sverige
by Melissa Fleming
Polaris, 2017

I also provide publishers and agents with reader’s reports and sample translations.

Civil Rights Defenders

I translate and edit advocacy material for the independent expert organisation Civil Rights Defenders. CRD (previously Swedish Helsinki Committee) defends human rights, particularly civil and political rights, and supports and empowers human rights defenders at risk all over the world.

My work for CRD includes proofreading, editing and translating reports, news articles and op-eds.

Civil Liberties Union for Europe

I am a translator for Liberties.eu, a network and media platform for European human rights organisations. Liberties has members in almost 20 countries, and publishes news stories, feature articles and multimedia reports about their work. The platform operates on an inclusive language policy: content is published in all member languages.

I am in charge of all translations between Swedish and English. To date, I have translated over 900 texts about human rights and civil liberties in Europe. The following are a few samples:

An article about censorship of a children’s book in Lithuania, a petition for transparency in the EU-Cuba negotiations, ainterview with one of the organisers behind Belgrade Pride, and subtitles for this video.

What others say about me

Alice’s work ethic is impeccable and her level of translation work is incredibly accurate. In our job we write many press releases and news stories and need accurate translations from someone who has native speaker abilities in two or more languages. Alice totally meets this criteria and her level of technical and legal English is fantastic.

Keith Begg, Civil Rights Defenders International Communications and Advocacy Officer

It has been a privilege for me to work with Alice. She has a passion and unusual skill for language. Her focus on conveying the intended message and her attention to detail is outstanding.

Ed Fontes, COMSOL Inc. Chief Technology Officer
